Raise workplace confidence of higher educated persons with disabilities and/or SEN

Persons with disabilities or Special Education Needs (SEN) include those with restriction of or those who lacked the ability to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being.   The database of the Labour and Welfare Bureau covers ten selected types of disability, including:  (i) restriction in body movement; (ii) seeing difficulty; (iii) hearing difficulty; (iv) speech difficulty; (v) mental illness/mood disorder; (vi) Autism; (vii) Specific Learning Difficulties; (viii) Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD); (ix) intellectual disability; (x) visceral disability / chronic illness.

Facilitate and enhance inclusive employment by providing employment support with special emphasis on strengths-based approach, which aims to uncover and match the strengths of SEN youth with job opportunities

Co-create diversified job opportunities with design thinking model

Facilitate social inclusion by engaging parents and the community

Provide career counselling to post-secondary students with SEN, and to prepare them before they enter the job market

To increase the employability of young adults with SEN

To enhance the competency of parents/carers in supporting their adult children with SEN along the career exploration journey

To improve the reliability and validity of assessment tools as well as the effectiveness of intervention protocols on inclusive employment 

To co-create a sustainable ecosystem of inclusive employment 

Providing platforms and opportunities to them to develop art-related slashie career plan

The importance of unity of knowledge and action has been raised long ago by Confucius in The Analects. As explained by the Ming dynasty thinker Wang Yangming, “becoming aware plants the seed of action, taking action is the fruit of knowledge”.  

The Jockey Club Collaborative Project for Inclusive Employment aspires to not only raise stakeholders’ awareness and knowledge on inclusive employment, but also inspire them to take action and become advocates for inclusive employment, contributing to social inclusion.   The project aims to facilitate the five partners (CareER, Heep Hong Society, SAHK, St. James Settlement, and The University of Hong Kong) with a diverse range of expertise to break away from the traditional ways of working, create opportunities to experiment with different forms of collaboration and foster the sharing of information, networks, creativity, knowledge and skills, and other resources.   We trust that such collaboration can improve the quality and effectiveness of services, which will ultimately lead to the raising societal awareness on and furthering the cause of inclusive employment, achieving unity in knowledge and action.
